The Rush City girls out-scrapped the Braham Bombers in the final minutes to pull out a 37-36 victory in front of a packed house on Jan. 6 in a classic matchup between archrivals.
The game was close throughout, with Braham holding a one point lead at halftime.
The Bombers pulled away in the final minutes, but the Tigersí defense forced some key turnovers and the offense chipped away at the lead. With 10 seconds remaining the Tigers were down by one point when Amber Hoffman dove out of bounds to save the ball, slapping it to Bobbi Cort, who made the game-winning basket.
It was the Tigersí first conference win of the season. It came at a time when the Tigers desperately needed a strong performance following a dismal showing at the Pierz Holiday tournament.
ěI was very happy to see us come out with a great attitude and great intensity, which could have been hard to do coming off our Christmas tournament,î said Coach Jeremy Albright. ěThe girls wanted this game bad, which you could tell with our effort.î
The Tigers were led by Hoffman and Becky Kemen, who each had 10 points and 2 steals. Kemen also had 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Cort added 9 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists.
The Tigers travel to Ogilvie on Jan. 12 and to Grantsburg on Jan. 13. Their next home game is Jan. 17 against East Central.
