Isanti community blood drive is Jan. 5

People can donate in honor of Braham boy who was severely burned recently

Posted: 1/4/06

The Isanti community is hosting its next Memorial Blood Centers blood drive from noon to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, at the Isanti Community Center located at 121 Norelius St.

ìWe are especially inspired by the story of Skye Williams (Braham boy who was burned over 90 percent of his body) and are dedicating our community blood drive in his honor,î said Paulette Gehrke, Isanti community blood drive coordinator. ìMemorial Blood Centers will supply cards for those wishing to donate in honor of Skye that will be delivered to his family at Hennepin County Medical Center.î

January is also National Blood Donor Month and everyone who donates at the Isanti community blood drive, or any of Memorial Blood Centersí donor centers or blood drives throughout the month, will be eligible to enter a drawing for a trip for two to Las Vegas, courtesy of Clear Channel Radio and MLT Worry-Free Vacations.

To register for the Jan. 5 Isanti community blood drive, please contact Gehrke at (763) 444-6375. While appointments are encouraged, walk-ins are also welcome.

Donating blood is a highly meaningful way to volunteer in your community, and because the blood is separated into components, each donation can save as many as three lives. The donation process, which includes registration, a mini-physical and the donation, takes approximately 45 minutes, with the actual donation time being less than 10 minutes. To give blood donors must be at least 17 years old, in good health and weigh at least 110 pounds.

To schedule an appointment to donate blood at one of Memorial Blood Centersí 10 convenient locations, please call (612) 871-3300 or visit www.memorialbloodcenters.org.
