Steveís Triathlon adventure
By Steve Morris
Man, time sure does fly. Too bad I canít say the same about my time at the Triathlon on Sunday. The Chisago Lakes Triathlon is July 30 and I canít wait.
Speaking of time, I was training with a friend who is an experienced triathlete. The conservation quickly turned to what time I should aim for. After some friendly banter, I decided I would aim for an hour and 40 minutes. A modest time for a quarter-mile swim, 15-mile bike and three-mile run.
My training for this triathlon has been a piecemeal event. I have run a few days here, biked some miles there, and done some swimming. This, my friends, is why I am not bringing home the gold. I am in it for the fun and exercise.
I have trained enough to know that I will not finish last and I will finish strong, but not in first.
My unorthodox training, however, does include some last-minute combination workouts, in which I bike and then run afterwards. Last week, I biked the Sunrise Prairie Trail for an hour and then ran for 20 minutes. This week, I plan on doing the same.
I have little time left, but the time I do have will be put toward preparing for the race.
My training diet has stayed constant the whole training process. Doughnuts on Wednesdays and pizza nearly once a week.
But if I do happen to poop out, I will have the support of my new fiance, Amy, who will be on the sidelines to cheer me on.
Stay tuned to next weekís sports section to see how I finished and if I made my goal.
