Flickabirds is about family

All Scott ìBuzzî Mell ever wanted was to do as a pre-schooler, was hunt with his older brothers. ìStay home little girl,î or ìYouíll probably want to hunt for dresses,î they would say. It was Mellís Swedish grandmother who would ultimately scoop Mell in her protective arms and say ìInstead of hunting birds, you can be my little flickabird.î
When one considers that ìflickaî means ìgirlî in Swedish, it is possible that grandma was getting in on the action more than riding to the rescue but nevertheless, the name stuck. Today Mell is all grown up with a family of his own and, together, they run Flickabirds Resort on East Rush Lake.
Situated on the southeastern shore of East Rush Lake, Flickabirds, open as of May 1, is a picturesque resort with a distinctively family flair. It offers 30 seasonal campsites with full hook-ups, many of which are already full. A boat launch and slip space makes putting the family on the lake and keeping them there a thing of ease. Those without boats can fish off of ample dock space.
When the fish arenít biting families will be able to enjoy horseshoes, beach volleyball, evening walks, or an ice cream cone on a warm summer night.
Flickabirds lodge offers a short order menu including broasted chicken breasts and is open to the public at large. For entertainment purposes there is a pool table, video games, and four televisions. With capacity for 100 patrons inside and another 100 outside, dinner and a cocktail are available no matter what the weather.
Later this summer, Flickabirds plans to hold a grand opening celebration with music, food, and fun. It should provide a perfect opportunity for one and all to stop by and enjoy what Flickabirds has to offer.
