Midsummer fun coming up next week

Posted: 6/7/06

Look no further than your back yard for this exciting summer adventure. North Branch is celebrating the 81st annual Midsummer festival June 14-18.

Youíll save on gas when you stay home to enjoy the fun of this hometown celebration.

Start the fun with the Chamberís Block Party, Wednesday, June 14, 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. along Elm Street and Forest Blvd. There will be tasty snacks and a chance to win $100 in Chamber Dollars with Chamber Bingo.

The Chamber is also holding a Silent Auction. Check under the big tent near the Legion. bidding ends Saturday, June 17 at 2:30 p.m. after the NB American Legion Appreciation dinner.

Some things have changed this year so youíll want to pay particular attention to the schedule of events (See page 13).

One major change is the day of the Kiddie Parade. Usually a Thursday night event, it is planned for Saturday morning, June 17. Gather at the NB City Hall parking lot for this event. The theme this year is ìRed, White and Blue,î so don those colorful costumes and join in the fun. (See Youth page for details)

Saturday will be a jammed packed day of fun from morning to night. It includes a golf tournament, 4-mile walk-run event on Sunrise Prairie Trail, 7:30 a.m. registration if not already done, Kiddie Olympics near the high school, Olde World Market, Lioness wellness screening. The annual fire department water fight is at 3 p.m. on Elm Street. The day wraps up with a street dance under the big tent.

Midsummer royalty will be crowned Friday night at 7 p.m. under the tent.

And donít forget the big Midsummer parade at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 18. Sure, itís Fatherís Day, but whatís more fun and gas-saving than bringing good old Dad to the grand day parade. Itís a tradition with many area families; some folks even make it a special event by returning home to NB each year for this spectacular parade.

There will be food vendors around town, special meals and donít forget the Carnival in the park. If youíve a hankering for that first corn dog of the summer, come on over. And rides, rides, rides, fun for all, and games, too.

Why not remember the 125th anniversary of the city of North Branch this year by dressing in clothing from your favorite decade of the past.

The NB Chamber may be contacted for more information (651) 674-4077 about the festival.

Really, a free lunch

Saturday, from noon to 2 p.m., or until gone, there will be a free lunch of hot dogs, chips, beans and soda under the big tent near the Legion. Cake will be served in honor of the 125th anniversary of the city of North Branch.
