Two-night womenís conference to tackle issues of mind, body and spirit, March 23, 30

The 12th annual Womenís Health Conference scheduled for Thursdays, March 23 and 30 at Hazelden promises a breath of spring.
The free womenís event, hosted by Chisago County Public Health, Fairview Lakes Health Services, Hazelden, St. Croix Regional Medical Center, and Polk County (Wisc.) Public Health, has become a community tradition. This year the conference invites women to take charge of their lives ñ mind, body and spirit. As in the past, the free conference will be held at the Hazelden CORK Center in Center City. Preregistration is not required.
Each eveningís event will begin at 5:30 p.m. when women will be able to meander from one learning activity or screening to the next, and, of course, enjoy the mini-massages and healthy snacks that have become a trademark of the evening before settling down to listen to two featured speakers.
Thursday, March 23, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

6:30-7:30 p.m.
ìMotorcycling through Menopause,î featuring Jean Cheeley and Dianne Grabowski who will share a unique bond of friendship, motorcycling, menopause and their funny and inspiring book. They will encourage women to laugh at themselves, love themselves and most importantly try something new.
7:45-8:45 p.m.
ìEmotional Eatingî presented by Pat Fettes, M.D., St. Croix Regional Medical Center. Emotional eating often derails attempts to lose weight and become healthier. Dr. Fettes will discuss factors that cause emotional eating and techniques for breaking the pattern. Dr. Fettes has provided treatment for eating and weight problems since 1986.
Thursday, March 30, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

ìGot Joy? Laughter is Good Medicineî by humorist and author Mary Pierce, who believes that the contentment we long for comes as we learn to see challenge as opportunity.
7:45-8:45 p.m.
ìThe Path to Wellness through Mind-Body Medicineî by Bernadette Clevenger, M.D. family medicine physician at Fairview Rush City Clinic who studied with Dr. Herbert Benson at the Mind/Body Medical Institute in Boston. She will explain the role of stress in illness and how to elicit the relaxation response.
