Houle competes on beam at state tourney
By Pat Tepoorten
North Branch sophomore gymnast Alyssa Houle joined the best of the best from around the state last weekend at the state high school gymnastics tournament.
Houleís strong season qualified her to compete at state on the balance beam. In that event she averaged a score of 7.625.
The score was not enough to put Houle among the top finishers in the state, but that did not matter to head coach Holly Saunders, whose reaction to Houleís performance was somewhat more positive than Houleís own.
ìShe was somewhat disappointed,î said Saunders of Houleís reaction to her day at state. ìI thought she did great. Making it is half the battle.î
In other gymnastics news:
Saunders reported that the Viking squad was the recipient of academic awards at both the section and conference level.
