NB girl wins K of C free throw contest

Jessica Merchant of North Branch recently won the Knights of Columbus Region 7 Free Throw Championship in Aitkin. She now goes on to compete in the 32nd annual Minnesota Knights of Columbus State Free Throw Championship on March 26 at the Target Center, prior to the Timberwolves game with the New York Knicks.
Merchant won the local contest in North Branch and the district contest in Braham competing against other 10-year-olds from central Minnesota.
This is the third year that the State Championship has been held in conjunction with the Timberwolves organization.
Last year about 5,000 girls and boys competed in over 200 local contests. This year over 8,000 participants are expected to participate in all areas of Minnesota.
She is one of the top 120 free throw shooters in Minnesota.
