Minnco VP meets with Gov. Pawlenty

Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty spent an evening with credit union professionals and volunteers on Monday, Jan. 9, as the Minnesota Credit Union Network (MnCUN) hosted a campaign reception at its St. Paul office.

Doug Hallstrom, Minnco Credit Unionís executive vice president and Network Board director, attended the reception and was pleased to be able to meet personally with the governor regarding credit union issues.

ìThe credit union model works, and both the marketplace and consumers like what youíre doing,î Gov. Pawlenty told those in attendance. ìElected officials need to ensure [credit unions] have equal competition on an equal playing field, and the regulatory environment in Minnesota needs to stay fair.î

In 2002, Gov. Pawlenty was Minnesotaís House Majority Leader and was instrumental in the passage of the Minnesota Credit Union Protection Act, which modernized credit union regulations and achieved parity with many federal regulations.

ìIt is an honor to host an event for a sitting governor,î Hallstrom said. ìWe are proud to be able to provide such an opportunity for the credit unions to discuss issues face-to-face with the leader of our state.î

ìWe are pleased to have Governor Pawlenty on our side,î added Hallstrom.

Minnco Credit Union is celebrating its 70th year of serving the financial needs of east central Minnesota, with offices in Cambridge, Cub Foods grocery store, Isanti and North Branch.
