Vikings girls struggle with Wildcats, upset Eagles
By Steve Morris
The North Branch girlís basketball lost to the Chisago Lakes Wildcats 44-41 on the road Tuesday, Feb. 21. Junior forward Tiffany Good led the Vikings in scoring with 16 points.
Marlayna Graff added 13 points and 15 rebounds in the losing effort. Head coach Dan Schindler said they had some scoring droughts that hurt them in the end. In addition, he said, they didnít shoot the ball well and missed some easy layups which were costly.
ìWe started the game falling behind 12-4 and we just couldnít make any shots,î Schindler said.
However, the Vikings were able to bounce back from the slipshod performance and beat Totino Grace on the road three days later 49-40.
ìI thought Kristen Robatcek did a nice job defensively on our press and had seven big steals,î Schindler said.
Good led the team in scoring with 18 points. Gabrielle Olson had an all around stellar performance with eight points, nine assists, and eight rebounds.
Free throws were the big difference in the game.
The Vikings were 16-19 from the field. Totino Grace was only 3-4. The win gave the Vikings 4th place in the conference and their 18 win of the season. Schindler said this is the seventh year in a row they have won 18 or more games.
ìI was pleased we were able to finish in the top half of the new conference,î he said.
