Tiger girls play strong, but fall to Pierz in round one
By Steve Morris
The Rush City girlís basketball finished their season with a 72-51 subsection quarterfinal lost to the Pierz Pioneers Feb. 28.
Junior Amber Hoffman was a one woman show for Tigers. She scored 25 points, nearly half of the teams total, and drained five threes in the losing effort. Senior Kacie Vold added 10 rebounds and senior Becky Kemen scored 15 points and had two steals as well.
ìPut or performance against Pierz versus any other team on our schedule and we walk out with a win,î head coach Jeremy Albright said.
The Tigerís shooting troubles may have been their most significant foe. For the game they were eight of 40. The Pioneers defense also proved difficult for the Tigers to handle. Rush City committed 25 turnovers.
Albright said Pierz had to many talented offensive weapons to deal with. Rush City had experienced that Pioneers offensive power during their match at the Christmas tournament earlier this year. Pierz poured in 89 points in the win.
The Tigers finished the season 9-16 and 8-6 in the Great River Conference. Despite the premature elimination from the playoffs, Alright remains satisfied with his team.
ìI was proud of our girls,î Albright said. ìThey saved their best game for last.î
