On Feb. 24 and 25, Jenny Anderson, a 2005 graduate of North Branch High School, completed her 2006 indoor track season for Augusana College, Sioux Falls, SD, by placing 5th in the Pentathlon and 6th in the 60 meter high hurdles at the North Central Conference Indoor Track Championship held at Minnesota State Mankato.

Anderson competed all season in the hurdles, with her fastest time being 9.40 seconds. Friday she competed in her first Pentathlon, which consists of five events, the 60 hurdles, the shot put, the high jump, the long jump and the 800 meter run.

Each event is scored by giving the competitor a pre-set amount of points, depending upon the time or distance attained.

Anderson finished 4th in the hurdles, 9.41 seconds, for 826 points; 2nd in the shot, 33 feet 5.75 inches, for 543 points; tied for 6th in the high jump, 4 feet 10.5 inches, for 610 points; 10th in the long jump, 15 feet 9 inches for 506 points and 6th in the 800 meter run, 2:33.93 seconds for 644 points. Her total of 3,129 points put her in 5th place, gaining 4 points for Augusana in the meet.

Her teammate, senior Janie Sershen won the event scoring 3,329 points.

Anderson also competed in the regular 60 meter hurdles on Friday, where she qualified for the finals by placing 8th. (The top eight in the preliminary round made the finals).

On Saturday, in the finals, she placed 6th by running her fastest time of 9.39 seconds, which garnered 3 points for Augusana. Augustanaís 98 points placed the womenís team in 3rd for the meet, which is the highest they have placed since the women Augies started competing in the North Central Conference in 1981.

Andersonís 9.39 for the hurdles is 5th on the all-time Augusana record book. Her 3,129 points in the pentathlon places her 4th on the all-time list.

Now Anderson will concentrate on the outdoor season, which will start with the Rice University Open in Houston, Texas on March 28, 2006.
