Tigers sneak past Isle; fall to St. Johns Prep

By Steve Morris

When two teams make the identical amount of field goals in a 36-minute game the outcome must be determined by another statistic.

The Rush City boyís basketball team out rebounded Isle 37-17 in the conference game en route to a 68-65 victory. Jake Bosman and Jerred Nelson each pulled down 10 rebounds combining for more than half of the Tigers total rebounds.

The rebounds are impressive considering neither player is taller than six foot two inches.

Bosman and Nelson did more than rebound the ball. Bosman tallied 16 points and Nelson added 18.

Head coach Gary Dreissig said he wasnít thrilled about his teams performance. He said they could have played with more energy and were fortunate to walk away with the win.

ìThis was one of those games where the team that played with the most energy did not win,î he said. ìI thought Isle outworked us and we were very lucky to win.î

The Tigers were able to come away with a victory after a disappointing overtime loss on Friday Feb. 24 against Hinckley-Finlayson.

ìThe coaching staff was concerned how we would come out after a tough overtime loss at Hinckley,î Dreissig said.

The Tigers won the game but by no means was it a flawless performance. They shot a goose egg, zero for seven from three point land and committed 25 turnovers. Isle also was infected with the turnover bug; they committed 17 turnovers.

ON THE ROAD

The Tigers loss on the road, falling to St. Johns Prep 63-62 March 3. The Tigers didnít make many trips to the freethrow line; they went 0-2 on the game.

Bosman carried the team in scoring with 22 points on five of 10 shooting. Jeff Jennings and Ryan Swanson both added 10 points for the Tigers.

The Tigers play Braham March 9 at Braham in the section quarterfinals.
