Clifford R. Dahlstrom
Clifford Roy Dahlstrom was born in Rock Creek, Minn. to John and Mary (Brostrom) Dahlstrom. He had three brothers (Walfred, Bill, and Ray) and three sisters (Jennie, Martha, and Carrie), all who have preceded him in death.
Cliff left the farm in Rock Creek, along the old Government Road, to travel West to California and Oregon. He worked in the potato fields where he met Roy Rogers, before the singing cowboy became a star.
Next on his journey was Alaska, where he and his brother-in-law owned a trucking contract with the city of Anchorage. While there, he entered the U. S. Army and was one of the Alaskan Scouts who landed on Attu, in the Aleutian Islands, and helped to recover that piece of U.S. territory from the entrenched Japanese army. He finished out his military days teaching avionics to Army Air Corp trainees in Texas.
Returning to Minnesota, he met and married Peggy Moses and began a business with an auto body shop. Eventually he became a police officer for the Village of Rush City and ultimately rose to the position of Chief of Police. He served as president of the American Federation of Police for the State of Minnesota in the 1960ís. He was also a deputy sheriff for Chisago County during his years as a police officer and a bailiff for the court system after his retirement.
His wife Peggy passed away in 1965. He married Hazel ìBrownieî Brown in 1967 and the two of them continued their careers of service to the community of Rush City until his retirement.
His retirement was filled with a number of activities that he enjoyed. One of which was spending winters in a small home in Brownsville, Texas, with spring, summer, and fall in Minnesota. He enjoyed golfing and fishing in both areas and hunting in Minnesota. He thoroughly enjoyed the interaction he had with his many friends in Chisago and Pine Counties.
He was also a member of the Rush City Volunteer Fire Dept., the Jasper Masonic Lodge, the Rush City Lions, the Rush City V.F.W. and the Rush City Eagles baseball team.
Cliff died last Friday evening, May 12, 2006 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Rush City. He was 88 years old. He is survived by his wife Hazel, his son Kirk and his wife Liz of Inver Grove Heights, two stepsons; Kenny Moses and his wife Jean of Florida and Terry Moses and his wife Joanie of the Twin Cities. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Maggie Fossand, Andy, Peter, Mike, and Ben Dahlstrom, and seven great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Peggy and six brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 18th at 11 am in the First Lutheran Church of Rush City with Reverend Laurie OíShea officiating. Interment is in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery of North Branch. Military honors will be presented by the Grothe-Jacobson VFW Post of Rush City.
