Annual bike rodeo
Posted: 5/17/06
The Howard Kurtz Annual Bike Rodeo will again be held at the City of North Branch parking lot located at 7th Ave. and Elm St. Registration is from 9 to 9:30 a.m. and the rodeo is from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The Kurtz family, in loving memory of their husband and father Howard Kurtz, has donated both a girlís and boyís 20-inch bike to be given away to one of the rodeo participants.
The North Branch Police Department begins its annual bike safety program in the schools by presenting information to grades K through 4. Here the basics of bicycle safety are reviewed and questions answered. Then, on June 3rd, participants in the bike rodeo learn by actually riding their bikes through a course, learning to stop at stop signs, signal when turning, look for traffic, etc. The North Branch senior group, TRIAD, is on hand to assist the bike riders through the course.
If you are a parent of children in kindergarten through fourth grade and want to reinforce good biking habits, bring them to the Bike Rodeo on Saturday June 3rd.
