Kemen, Cort pitch wins for Rush City

Rush City defeated East Central 10-7 at home May 9. The Tigers were led by Janet Kemen on the mound who pitched the distance striking out nine and walking four.

ėJanet really pitched well in the latter innings,î head coach Kim Erdman said. ėShe took the game into her own hands ...î

The Tigers were down by two runs going into the sixth but rallied from behind for the win. Kemen, Bethany Peters, Jamie Prettner, and Josie Gust each had two hits for the Tigers. Sammi Luckoff added one hit.

Later in the week, Peters hit her fifth home run of the year as the Tigers beat Isle 11-4 on the road May 11.

ė I am proud of our girls,î Erdman said. ėThey have hung in their all year long.î

Rush City left runners on base early in the game but were able to hit them across as the game progressed. The Tigers had a 5-4 lead in the sixth and pulled out of reach with a six-run, two-out rally in the seventh. The girls had seven consecutive hits.

ėThe girls got up there and just hacking away, and we hit the ball in the gaps,î Erdman said.

Cort was in control on the mound. The senior pitcher allowed one walk. Cort also added three hits.

Laura Gamache, Prettner, and Amanda Lopez each collected one hit.

The win against the conference rival was extra sweet for the Tigers since they loss to the Huskies April 27 by nine runs.

The win puts the Tigers at .500 for the season.
