The Rush City baseball team narrowly escaped a defeat at the hands of East Central 1-0 May 9.
The Eagles improved since the two teams met last. On April 11, Rush City beat East Central 11-1. This game was different.
Junior Josh Ehrreich had two singles; senior Adam Best hit a double and scored the only run of the game; junior Jake Bosman had one hit and an RBI.
Schlagel, as he noted for many games this year, said his team was fortunate to walk away with the win.
ìOur hitting was average at best as we were not very disciplined at the plate,î he said.
Bosman pitched the distance, striking out six and
giving up seven hits.
ìWith us not hitting well this night, we got a strong pitching performance from Bosman which helped us get the win,î Schlagel said.
Two days short of Motherís Day, the Tigers easily beat St. Johns Prep 17-7. Rush City was aided by the fact that St. Johns Prep had a six error inning.
It was a team effort as eight players had at least one hit. Among the 18 hits were seven extra base hits, including five doubles in the second inning when they scored eight runs.
ì[Itís] nice to see us hit the ball with consistency up and down the lineup,î Schlagel said.
Ehrreich went three for four with three RBIís; Brad Carlson had three hits including two doubles; senior Zach Beck had three hits with three RBIís.
The Johnies had a small rally in the fifth inning when they batted for five runs; but it was too little to late.
The Tigers made it eight in a row as they defeated Minnesota Business Academy 10-0 at home May 15.
Ehrreich had two hits and an RBI; Best added a triple and an RBI; Bosman had two RBIís.
Noah Reichel pitched four innings picking up the win. He gave up zero hits and had 11 strike outs.
ìWe played well in all phases of the game,î Schlagel said.
The win puts Rush City to 13-2 overall and 7-2 in the conference.
