Harold Fredrick Sturmer

Harold Fredrick Sturmer, age 98 of Cambridge, Minn. passed away Friday, May 19, 2006 at Grandview Christian Home in Cambridge.

Harold was born on April 2, 1908 to Fredrick and Emma (Lueth) Sturmer, on the family dairy farm near Greeley, Minn.

Harold grew up on the family farm and attended Rohlf School near Rush City, Minn. He was united in marriage to Myrtle Schweigert of Amboy, Minn. on Nov. 23, 1935 in Pine City, Minn. He went on to take over the family farm until the 1960ís. Harold and his wife sold the farm and then built the first Dairy Queen in Pine River, Minn.. Several years later they retired to Cambridge, and in 1995 they moved to Happy Tracks assisted living home in North Branch, Minn. for seven years and then to Grandview Christian Home in Cambridge.

He is survived by his sister, Lucille Ekstrand of Rush City, brother-in-law Roy Hansen of Viborg, SD, niece Gloria (Louis) Larson of Bloomington, Minn., nephew Stephen (Shirley) Hanson of Stone Mountain, GA, niece Georgia (John) DeKeyser of AK, Dan (Janel) Fox of Amboy, Minn., Mary (Bill) Kvebeak of Detroit Lakes, Minn., Tammy (Dave) Langworthy of Detroit Lakes, Minn. and several great nieces and nephews, cousins and many other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Myrtle, sisters: Ethel Forby, Dorothy Waldstein, Gladys Hansen, Margaret Sturmer, niece Jacqueline Jones and brother in-law Howard Fox.

Harold was the oldest member and a lifetime member of St. Johnís Lutheran Church of Rush City. He was also an active member of the Rush City Farmerís Co-op for many years. He and his wife Myrtle loved the outdoors and spent many hours enjoying fishing and camping together. In their farming years they enjoyed playing cards with their Greeley neighbors.

Rev. Glen Kleppe officiated at memorial services for Harold Sturmer Tuesday, May 23, at the St. Johnís Lutheran Church in Rush City. Inurnment took place in the St. Johnís Lutheran Cemetery at Rush Lake. Arrangements were entrusted to the Funeral and Cremation Service of Rush City; Olson Chapel.
