Gordon Emil F. Elmstrand
Gordon Emil Fritchiof Elmstrand, age 87 of North Branch, Minn., passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2006 at Fairview Lakes Hospital, Wyoming, Minn.
Gordy was born to Charles and Gerda Elmstrand on May 22, 1919 at his lifelong farm home in North Branch. He attended Hawkinson School through the 8th grade. He farmed with his father until his fatherís death in 1950 and them remained farming on his own throughout his life. Along with farming, he worked construction and later for the State Highway Department until his retirement.
In 1960 he married Grace Johnson of Two Harbors, Minn. He welcomed her and her six children into his heart and home.
Gordy enjoyed singing, (especially in Swedish), fishing, gardening, and the Minnesota Twins, John Deere tractors and playing Smear (of which he was the champion).
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, wife Grace, son Loren, infant daughter Donna, brothers Arvid, and Hendrik, sister Martha, and sons-in -law Dick Fisk and John Bistodeau.
He will be sadly missed by his daughters: Shirley Fisk, Phyllis Hammers (Dan), Dorean Bewley, Suzanne Bistodeau, son Jim (Cindy), 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and sister Lydia Schlipp. He was blessed with many nieces and nephew who were very dear to him.
Visitation was held Sunday, Oct. 29 from 5-7 p.m. at Grandstrand Funeral Home in North Branch.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, North Branch.
