Lorraine D. Schlagel
Lorraine D. Schlagel, age 80, of Rush City, Minn., died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006 at Edgewater Assisted Living in Pine City, Minn.
Lorraine was born Aug. 10, 1926 in St. Paul, Minn., and was the daughter of Irvin and Mary (Murtha) Moore. She was baptized at St. Patrickís Catholic Church in Erin Prairie, Wisc. and was raised on a farm near Emerald, Wisc. Following her graduation from New Richmond High School, she worked at Ensley Cleaners in New Richmond, Wisc.
In December of 1945, Lorraine met Cecil Schlagel at a dance at the White Owl Pavilion in Emerald. They were married at St. Patrickís Church in Erin Prairie on June 18, 1947.
In November of 1947, Lorraine and Cecil moved to Harris, Minn. when Cecil became manager of the Harris Interstate Lumberyard. On December 6th of that same year, they moved to Rush City, Minnesota when Cecil was offered the managerial position at the Rush City Interstate Lumberyard. For five years, Lorraine also worked in the office of the Rush City Interstate.
Lorraine became a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church when they moved to Rush City in 1947 and was always active in church affairs. She enjoyed watching her sons, Bob, Kevin, and Larry, as they grew up and participated in high school and college athletics.
When her children were grown, she worked at the Rush City Variety Store and at Abduls in Rush City. In addition, she enjoyed playing cards, doing word search puzzles, going to the casino, going out for Wednesday morning breakfasts, dinners at the Rustic Inn and the Kaffe Stuga, watching sports on television, attending her grandchildrenís activities, and most of all, spending time with her family.
Lorraine is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Bob and Shari Schlagel of Rush City, Kevin and Pam Schlagel of St. Cloud, Minn., and Larry and Lori Schlagel of North Branch, Minn.; grandchildren: Cory, Alissa, Kari, Ryan (Lindsay), Jamie, and Leah; her sister and brother-in-law: Margaret and Tom Stephens of New Richmond; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law: Alden and Betty Schlagel of Woodbury, Minn., Mary Schlagel of Eagan, Minn., and Myrtle Schlagel of Howard Lake, Minn.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Mary Moore, and her husband, Cecil Schlagel.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Father Xavier Thelakkatt at 10:30 a.m.on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rush City. Music was provided by Nancy Sterk, Tim Ronning and Steve Yurich. Casket bearers included Lorraineís grandchildren, Cory, Alissa, Kari, Ryan, Jamie, and Leah Schlagel with the interment at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Rush City. Arrangements were entrusted to the Funeral & Cremation Service of Rush City, Minnesota; ìOlson Chapel.î
