Nutcracker coming to Cambridge

Continental Ballet Company will be performing the Nutcracker Ballet for the 18th consecutive season. This family-friendly version of the holiday classic will be performed at the Richard G. Hardy Performing Arts Center in Cambridge on Friday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m.

Under the direction of Riet Velthuisen, the Continental Ballet Companyís Nutcracker goes through subtle changes each season that enhances the experience for repeat audiences and dancers. The Nutcracker is a timeless ballet that has been a part of the classical repertoire since the late 1800s.

This production of the Nutcracker is a full-scale classical production and it is appropriate for children and adults alike. Riet Velthuisenís choreography is precise and inspiring, reflecting her European heritage.

This is a wonderful holiday classic for people of all ages!

Continental Ballet Company has always maintained their commitment to classical ballet and has been unique in their determination to sustain a professional company.

Tatiana Berenova, who will be the Sugar Plum Fairy, received her training at the Moscow Choreographic Ballet Academy, which is the official school of the Bolshoi Ballet. She was awarded the First Place Gold Medal at the International Ballet Competition in Luxembourg. Ms. Berenova has danced with professional ballet companies and toured Europe, the United States and near and Far East.

The Continental Ballet Company will be traveling to Cambridge with this production of the Nutcracker Ballet to the Richard G. Hardy Performing Arts Center on Friday, Dec. 15.

Tickets are $14, $12 and $10. Purchases of 10 or more will receive $2 off.

Continental Ballet Company was founded in 1988 by Riet Velthuisen. Riet is a native of Holland and has danced professionally with several European ballet companies, including the Dutch National Ballet. Riet studied classical ballet in Amsterdam, The Hague and Paris. The Continental Ballet Company is a member of the Bloomington Fine Arts Council and resides at the Bloomington Center for the Arts.

The performers are professional dancers and can include as many as 39 dancers for a single production. In addition to the performing company, Continental Ballet Company operates a studio of ballet offering dance lessons for students of all ages and abilities.
