Fishing for a Cause
The 2nd Annual Sunrise Bassmasters Youth Fishing Day took place on Sat., Sept. 30.
Through Youth Fishing Day, the Club shares the sport of bass fishing with kids who may otherwise not get a chance to experience it. Nine members of the Sunrise Bassmasters Club and nine youth participated in a morning of fishing on Forest Lake. Local youth Clay McCarthy was top angler, taking first place with three bass weighing in at 8.6 pounds.
On Oct. 1, the 18th annual Sunrise Bassmasters Supporting Youth Bass Tournament took place on North and South Center Lakes in Lindstrom. All proceeds were donated to the Youth Service Bureau. Thirty-six teams competed. Brothers Kevin and Kyle Deering won top honors with a five fish limit weighing 14.53 pounds. They also had the big bass of the tournament, which weighed 5.02 pounds. Second place went to father/son team Morrie and Chris Amiot. Third went to Colin Fieck and Dan Gnau.
The event raised $2,787 for YSB. The tournament raised $1,207 with additional funding coming from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Scandia office. First State Bank of Wyoming and Sunrise Grocery in Stacy also made contributions through the event.
ìThe Youth Service Bureau was happy to have an opportunity again this year to partner with the Sunrise Bassmasters. The kids that participated in Youth Fishing Day had a great time with the club members. We appreciate all the interest and support Bassmasters show through this their tournament,î said YSB staff member Pam Trudeau.
Plans are already in the works for the 19th Annual Tournament. Hillcrest RV Park and Campground, on North Center Lake in Lindstrom has agreed to host the tournament in 2007. The Sunrise Bassmasters Club plans to partner with the Youth Service Bureau again in 2007.
