Conflict of interest?

TO THE EDITOR:

Nov. 7 approaches fast and furious. Make sure you vote with all the information you can gather. Get to know the candidates both local, state, and national. Ads do not reflect actual facts.

Locally we have two candidates for mayor, and five running for council seats.

I am concerned about two of the candidates running for council. Mr. Jim Vrchota is a banker, building a new bank in town. Mr. Randy Larson (who is on our EDA) is a real estate agent. My question is ñ most of the issues that face us are development, or related issues. How can they be objective and do the best for the citizens and not themselves?

Many of you remember in the late 90s the problem we had with two bankers and a developer on the EDA - Gateway South. This was a real can of worms that caused many hard feelings in the community.

I donít want to see this repeated at a critical time for our city. Personal agendas are certainly in question.

Not long ago there was and still is a deep division of the city. It was when a council member was perceived as having a conflict of interest on the Green Acres project. This is still in the forefront of many citizens and isnít forgiven easily.

Now we must make informed decisions and get on with the important business ñ dealing with the tremendous debt and use some common sense.

So please take the time to become informed ñ donít listen to rumors ñ do your homework.

Just remember ìThe Wolfî (debt) is at our door and we must ward him off.
