RC defense continues its dominance
By Steve Morris
The Rush City football team defeated Hinckley-Finlayson 30-6, earning its 5th win in a row.
Rush City has 11 seniors on the team which have set the tone for the season, head coach Gary Wendorf said.
ìThey really played well in the first half and took care of business,î Wendorf said of his team.
Despite being undefeated five weeks into the season, Rush City is not ranked by major polls. However, this doesnít bother Wendorf. It just means his team can sneak up on teams, he said.
However, he did admit it would be nice to be ranked.
Rush City had a balanced offensive attack with several players earning rushing yards and four different players scoring touchdowns.
Jeff Jennings, Jeremy Marty, Jake Bosman and James Warfield all scored touchdowns for the Tigers.
Bosman continued his well-rounded football style with a two-yard touchdown run, an interception and 94 yards of passing
Marty caught a 26-yard pass for a touchdown; Fleming ran in 9-yard run for seven more points and Jennings caught a 15-yard TD pass from Bosman.
Wendorf said their running game was performing well so they didnít have to pass the ball as much as they have in the past.
A big surprise for Wendorf this season has been the speed of his players. Wendorf said the kickoff team has played a crucial role in putting the opposing team in bad field position. About 90 percent of the time, the opponent starts between the 20 and 30 yard lines. With many sophomores and juniors on the kick off team, the Tigers have a bright future in the kick off department.
Up next Rush City hosts conference foe Aitkin at 7:30.
Aitkin has a no huddle offensive which Rush City will have to adapt to.
ìItís going to be a tough game,î Wendorf said.
