Janis Gayle (Allen) Smuder passed away on Sept. 10, 2006 peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends.

Janis was born on Dec. 12, 1949 in Rush City, Minn. to Clarence and Elaine (Johnson) Allen. She earned her GED in 1976.

Janis worked as a LPN, MLT and a coroner for Chisago and Isanti counties. She worked various positions in the medical field and hospital including Rush City Clinic, Cambridge Medical Center, Lakeside, Mora Hospital and Glencoe Hospital. She was also a volunteer for the Rush City Ambulance.

On July 14, 1979 she married Terry Scott Smuder in Harris, Minn. Janis enjoyed gardening, hunting, playing Cribbage, spending time with friends and family especially her grandchildren.

Janis was preceded in death by her parents, sister VidaMae, infant son Joseph David, aunts Jean, Gloria and Evelyn, uncles Chet and Jasper, father-in-law Harvey Smuder and Gram Olga.

Janis is survived by husband Terry, four daughters Charlotte (Car) Behrendt, Elizabeth (Steven) Beaumont, Terra Smuder, and Rebecca Smuder (fiance Chad Hoppe) and son Andrew Smuder (friend Jamie Michog); grandchildren Cory, Cody, Cash, Carissa and Cassandra Behrendt; Zoe Ahrens, and Madeline and Amanda Beaumont; one sister Judy (Carl) Huston; brothers Dwight (Pat) Allen, Roger Allen, Clarence (Darla) Allen, Larry Allen and Steven Allen; aunt Emma Lindstrom, mother-in-law Bettie Smuder, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held Friday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Rush City, Minn. with Rev. Laurie OíShea officiating. Memorials preferred to Fairview Hospice and HomeCare or Parker Hughes Cancer Clinic. Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home in North Branch.
