Rush City earns first conference win of season
By Steve Morris
Rush Cityís defense is doing something correct ñ for the second straight week they held their opponents scoreless. On Sept. 8 Rush City crushed conference foe Ogilvie 27-0.
The Tiger defense was ruthless. For the night, they had four interceptions and one fumble recovery. Head coach Gary Wendorf said tackles Josh Beck and Jerred Nelson along with Blake Rustad were impressive on defense.
ìBeck did an outstanding job on the defensive line,î he said. ìThe entire defense played well all night.î
Moreover, Wendorf said the Tigers had at least three sacks and forced Ogilvie to rush many of their passes.
ìThey played off the ball well,î he said.
On the offensive end, the Tigers struck early and often. They scored 20 of their 27 points in the first quarter. The offensive explosion took the wind out of the sails of an experienced Ogilvie team. Wendorf said Ogilvie has 17 seniors on their team.
The Tiger running attack was balanced though out the game. Three running backs got around the same amount of carries. In the first quarter, senior running back James Warfield ran in two touchdowns. He ended the night with nine carries for 62 yards. Senior James Fleming carried the ball six times for 62 yards and junior Cole Karnick had 13 carries for 74 yards.
Senior quarterback Jacob Bosman was 5-10 with 94 passes and one running touchdown.
The win puts the Tigers 2-0 for the season.
Up next Rush City will battle against conference rival Onamia at home on Friday.
ìItís always a great game when we play them,î Wendorf said.
RC football notes:
Senior wide receiver Jeff Jennings missed last weekís game because of illness. It is unknown how many games he will miss.
