Harris church holding candidate forum Sept. 28

Posted: 9/20/06

Candidates for all of the Legislative races in Harris, Minn. will be participating in a Candidates Forum to be held on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 7:30 p.m. at the Harris Covenant Church.

ìThis is an important election year, and we want to make sure that our neighbors as well as our members are fully informed about the candidates who will be representing Harris,î said Neil Bonkoski, pastor of Harris Covenant. ìSo many decisions are made in St. Paul that can have a dramatic impact on our community that it is also important that the candidates know how the people of Harris feel about the issues,î Bonkoski emphasized. ìWe are hoping for some important dialogue on the 28th.î

Candidates running for Senate District 17 and House Districts 17A and 17B will be participating. In addition to Harris, District 17 includes an area from north of Rush City to south of Wyoming and from the Wisconsin border to west of Cambridge. House District 17A represents the western half of the area and 17B represents the eastern half.

In Senate District 17, DFLer Rick Olseen and Independence Party candidate Bill Neuman are running against incumbent Sean Nienow (R). The race in House District 17A sees the incumbent Republican, Rob Eastlund facing DFLer Melissa Jabas. The House District 17B contest is pitting Jeremy Kalin (DFL) against incumbent Pete Nelson (R).

Harris Covenant Church is located at 43680 Gates Ave in Harris. ìThis is a community event,î noted Pastor Bonkoski. ìWeíre anticipating that a lot of our neighbors who do not go to Harris Covenant Church will be coming for the forum.î
