Pregnancy Resource Center to hold second annual Walkathon

Posted: 9/6/06

The Pregnancy Resource Center (PRC) of Cambridge, a faith-based, non-profit organization, will be having its second annual Walkathon Sept. 9. This is a leisurely walk of two miles and takes less than an hour. The walk will begin at 10 a.m. in the City Hall parking lot in front of the Pregnancy Resource Centerís office in the City Center Mall (between old Econo foods building and new City Hall), and end there also. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. If you would like to walk, please call the office at (763) 689-4319 or e-mail prcdirector@sherbtel.net to receive a sponsor form.

Gina Kennedy, executive director of the PRC, said, ěLast year we had about 100 walkers and raised $15,000. This year we would like to see 200 walkers!î

Walkers ask friends and family to sponsor them for a flat amount of their choosing. The walker does not even need to collect the money. The PRC will do that after the walk. If you cannot walk on Sept. 9, you may choose to walk another day in the week before or after the walk, and turn in your sponsor sheet.

The walkathon raises funds that will help the PRC to continue to provide free services to the community such as: pregnancy tests, peer consultants who provide support and mentoring, baby items/equipment that can be earned by attending parenting education classes, a resource person to help clients find community services available and more.

They will be adding some free medical services next year.
