First Minnesota Military Expo since 9/11 planned at Ft. Snelling

Posted: 4/18/07

The first Minnesota Military Expo since 9/11 will be held at Ft. Snelling May 19 - 20, as the Army Reserve resurrects a community relations event aimed at educating area residents about the military.
The event had been an annual event since 1995 until the 9/11 attacks, and resulting changes to security levels and operational tempo, caused the cancellation of the event.
The Minnesota Military Expo is open to the public and includes access to the Fort Snelling Military Museum, the Minnesota Air National Guard Museum and Historic Fort Snelling.
Events and activities will include the traveling Vietnam War Memorial, a 5k Armed Forces Run on Saturday morning, concerts by the 451st Army Band, a rock climbing wall, MRE-tasting, Kids Basic Training, and a Wall of Heroes memorial ceremony to honor the 88th RRC Soldiers who have been killed in action in support of the Global War on Terror.
A community Armed Forces Day blood drive will also be conducted on Saturday as a part of the expo. Please check out the web site at www.MNMilitaryexpo.com.
The event is sponsored by the 88th Regional Readiness Command (88th RRC), which has command and control over 22,000 Soldiers in Army Reserve units in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. Since 9/11 the 88th RRC has mobilized and deployed more than 18,000 Soldiers, including more than 2,200 from Minnesota.
