North Branch track was busy rattling the cage of North Suburban Conference foe Totino-Grace April 17. Under pristine conditions the boys lost by five points, 89-84. The distance events had a strong showing for the Vikings. North Branch earned the top four finishes in the mile, with sophomore Michael Heidelberger taking first with a time of 5:00.23.

Head coach Brian Hasleiet said he was happy to have a meet in nice weather.

"We've been improving each week and this meet was another nice step towards accomplishing our team goals," Hasleiet said.

The girls had a better showing, toppling the Eagles by an impressive score of 103-68.

Freshman up and comer Sara Swanson stole the show for the girls. She took first in the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash and the long jump. She also was on the first-place 4x200 relay team. Hasleiet said Swanson had another great meet and is going to have a successful season.

"She's a great athlete and one of the hardest working kids we've had on our team since I've been coaching at North Branch. Sara has a lot of naturally ability but what gives her the edge is her good attitude, her hard work, and her competitiveness," he said.

ST. FRANCIS MEET

At the St. Francis invitational the boys placed 5th out of 14 teams. Freshmen Brian Grand and TJ Leason helped the boys climb up a few notches in the rankings.

"It's quite an accomplishment to place in a meet of that quality for 9th graders.," Hasleiet said.
