Cathy Hoffman, 51, former assistant director of the East Central Regional Library system, died of breast cancer at her home near Harris on March 29. Cathy was known for her abundant energy and gift of gab, which she put to good use by serving the various communities of which she was a part, both in the Harris area and in Minneapolis, where she lived for 25 years. Her professional paths were many and varied, including liturgist at St. Stephen's Catholic Church; family day care provider; volunteer coordinator, and librarian. Originally diagnosed in 1995, Cathy maintained her great zest for life throughout the 12 years of her illness. Cathy was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Jo. She is survived by her beloved partner of 25 years, Cynthia Scott; father Stan (Sylvia) Hoffman; brother Paul (Laura) Hoffman of Greenville, Wisconsin and sister Julie (Kevin) Justie of Arlington Heights, Ill; nieces Rachel Justie and Katie Hoffman; nephew Brian Justie; brothers-in-law Jim Scott and Dan Greene, who provided extraordinary care and compassion in Cathy's last days; goddaughters Hannah Owens-Pike and Natalie Owens-Pike and their parents, Doug and Suzanne; many, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends; and the family of Frau Paula Hasel in Crailsheim, Germany, with whom Cathy was deeply bonded since living with them as a high school exchange student.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 2 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 2211 Clinton Ave. S. in Minneapolis. A luncheon at the church will follow. Anyone who is unable to attend the funeral is cordially invited to join family and friends at the luncheon. A memorial service and luncheon will also be held at St. Kilian Catholic Church in St. Kilian, Minnesota on Saturday, April 7, 11 a.m., with burial to follow at the Wilmont cemetery.
