Almelund Threshing tractor caravan has new route

Posted: 8/1/07

The 5th annual Almelund Threshing Show's Tractor Caravan will begin this year at the site of Anderson's Rock Creek Relic's Threshing and Sawing Show north of Rush City.

The event begins with coffee & donuts at 9 a.m. The tractors will line up and depart at 10 a.m. Participants are welcome to come early, as Duane Anderson will have many sheds full of antique farm equipment open for everyone to see and enjoy.

With Al Deiss from Centuria, Wis., leading the way, the tractor caravan will make its way to the Almelund Threshing Show grounds in plenty of time for the 51st annual Almelund Threshing Show that begins on August 10. Deiss will be driving a 1940 Wards Twin Row tractor that some lucky raffle ticket holder will win at next week's threshing show.

"This is a good way to get your tractor to the show, and have a lot of fun on the way" said Bruce Nelson, Caravan organizer.

The Caravan will make pit stops at the Joe Nelson farm, Sunrise Park, and the Amador Heritage Center, as it winds through beautiful scenic areas on its 26-mile trip.

Everyone is welcome, no sign up or advance reservations needed. Tractors and vintage vehicles are all welcome to join with as many riders as you can safely carry or tow behind. Every vehicle gets a magnetic dash plaque and there is no charge for anything on this fun-filled day.

Repair vehicles will be following behind in case of breakdowns, and Roger's Towing from North Branch will provide a complimentary lift for any units that are unable to finish the trip.

The route: from Anderson's, it will go south on Forest Boulevard (old 61) to the Old Brickyard Road, where the Caravan will head east to its first stop at the Nelson farm. From there the group will head south on Old Military Road, and southeast on Co Rd 9 to Sunrise Park. The route continues south on Co Rd 9 to Co Rd 15, and east to Almelund. The Caravan will travel on old MN Hwy. 95 right through the heart of Almelund, to the last pit stop at the Heritage Center. The Heritage Center will be open.

Then it's just a mile or two more south east on 95 to the showgrounds, where a picnic lunch will be provided by the North Branch Dairy Queen.

After lunch, buses provided by Hunt's Bus Service will take anyone that wishes, back to Andersons.
