St. Paul athlete takes first in Chisago Lakes Half Ironman

In an event filled with people from all over the country, Jeremy Sartain, of St. Paul, won the second annual Chisago Lakes Half Ironman Triathlon on Sunday in commanding fashion.
Under a blue sky, Sartain finished the race in 4:06 to take home the cash purse. His time was a minute slower than last year's winner Jonathan Balabuck of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Sartain finished more than six minutes ahead of second-place finisher Michael Hagen of Colorado Springs, Colo.
A total of 223 people crossed the finished line for the Half Ironman.
For the sprint triathlon, which is half the distance of the Half Ironman, Marc Llingson of Waconia, Minn., was the first to come through the finish. More than 800 people crossed the finish line for the Sprint Triathlon.
Lingson finished the race in 1:17, nearly 45 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Samuel Hauck from Shorview.
TOP LOCAL FINISHERS
Jennifer Stafford of Harris was the top local finisher for the sprint distance. She finished in 1:35. The time placed her in 71st place overall and third in her age group.
For the second year, Ken Anderson of Stacy was among the fastest local sprint triathlon finishers. He finished the race 1:36, good enough for 95th place overall. Jenson dropped his time dramatically from a year ago -- last year he finished in a time of 1:49.
Former North Branch track and cross country star Nick Ramberg was the top North Branch male finisher, with a time of 1:38, good enough for 115th overall.
Chuck Kartak finished 3rd in his age group with a time of 1:42.
KIDS TRIATHLON
In the 12-year old bracket, Peter Maring of Harris took first followed by Daniel Holden and Daniel Watkins.
