A single car accident on County Road 37 in Shafer Township, the morning of July 26, has claimed the life of a western Wisconsin man. Very little is known at this time about the circumstances of the crash.

Michael S. Piel, 20, of Milltown, Wisc., was traveling westbound on CR-37 near Teal Ave., when his full size pick-up truck left the road and rolled over, coming to rest on its roof. Both driver's side wheels were broken off in the crash.

Piel was extricated by Lakes Region EMS and Shafer first responders, and was taken by helicopter to North Memorial Hospital in the Twin Cities, where he was initially listed in critical condition.

Piel was pronounced dead on July 27.

The circumstances of the crash are under investigation by a Minnesota State Patrol reconstruction team.
