Hazel ‘Brownie' Dahlstrom
Hazel "Brownie" Marie Dahlstrom, the daughter of Roy and Alice (Erickson) Brown was born on April 20, 1920 in North Branch, Minnesota. She grew up in North Branch, graduated from North Branch High School and worked in the family business, Brown's Cash Store.
She began nurses training at Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul, graduating in 1941 as a Registered Nurse. Following graduation she moved to Rush City and worked as a nurse at the Rush City Hospital. Dr. Halpin asked her to be his nurse in this medical office which was over the Sommer's Drug Store in Rush City. In time they moved to a new office which is currently the dental office behind the Sommer's drug store. Brownie and Cliff Dahlstrom married on January 14, 1967 and continued their careers of service to the community of Rush City until their retirement. Brownie touched many people with her loving care as a nurse. She will be greatly missed. The coupled wintered in Brownsville, Texas, where they enjoyed many friends, fishing and golfing.
Brownie was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Rush City, Eastern Star, and the Local Red Hatters.
Brownie is survived by her step-son Kirk Dahlstrom and wife Liz of Inver Grove Heights, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sister Mae Lindstrom of San Diego, Cal., brother Chet Brown of Cambridge, sister-in-law Arline Brown of St. Louis Mo., nieces La Dez Mell, Patti Kuhlman, Jodi Fonda, Kathy Haselberger, and Debra Maleck, and nephews Jack Brown.
She is preceded in death by her parents Roy and Alice Brown, her husband Cliff Dahlstrom, her brother Orville Brown, sister-in-law June Brown, and brother-in-law Everett Lindstrom.
A funeral service was held on August 6, 2007 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Rush City with Rev. Laurie O'Shea Officiating. Music was provided by Doris Swanson and Jon Ekstrom. Honorary casket bearers were Roy and Eva Anderson. Casket bearers were Jack Brown, Craig Mell, Glen Mell, Duane Dahlstrom, Merle Dahlstrom, Loren Olson, and Doug Carlson.
Interment was in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery of North Branch, Minn.
