Trading KG -- a horrible mistake

By Steve Morris

My vocal cords still hurt from last week.

They hurt from yelling at the TV for hours when I heard my beloved Kevin Garnett was traded to the Boston Celtics, in one of the biggest trades in NBA history.

What were the big wigs in the front office thinking? The problem was they weren't thinking. Why would you trade your franchise player for five OK players and a couple draft picks? I have never even heard of, nor has anyone else in Minnesota, of the five players we got in the trade. At best, it will be years before the "new" team is able to be an elite NBA team. And that is a big IF.

We don't know if the players the Celtics gave the T-Wolves will be able to produce five years from now. The Celtics get a weathered veteran still in his prime. Instead, I am left with KG gear splashed with the Timberwolves logo all over my office.

KG has a proven track record of success and all he needed was a few key role players to get him back to the conference finals and into the NBA Championship. It was right around the corner if only the organization could have worked together a little more.

Clearly, the Boston Celtics get the better end of this deal. KG, combined with Ray Allen and Paul Pierce is a basketball combo I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

It seems the Timberwolves keep making one bad decision after another.

Who knows, maybe I am wrong about this trade. But I doubt it. Until the next bone-head move Timberwolves organization makes, I will rest my vocal cords.

Take it from a suffering Celtics fan. Minnesota got a good trade. Al Jefferson has been putting up numbers that compete with Dwight Howard - and this is against the double/triple teams he's been facing last year.
Gerald Green could come back to haunt us (huge upside, though can't defend for anything)
Ryan Gomes, huge role player.
Expiring contract with Theo Ratliff (11mil)
AND two first round picks.
You may lament KG, but I'm lamenting Big Al and the future of the celts. 3 years from now when allen, pierce, and garnett are all approaching or in their mid 30's, the t-wolves will be contenders for a long time to come. That's my prediction
