Local legislators offer condolences and support in Minneapolis bridge tragedy
In the aftermath of the horrific collapse of the I-35W Bridge in Minneapolis, State Senator Rick Olseen, DFL-Harris, State Representative Rob Eastlund, R-Isanti, and State Representative Jeremy Kalin, DFL-Lindstrom, offer their condolences to the victims of this tragedy.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and families of those killed, and those who await news on a missing relative," said Sen. Olseen. "We also send our best wishes for a speedy and full recovery to those injured in the collapse."
The legislators thanked the first responders and ordinary citizens who risked their lives to help in the wake of the disaster.
"We praise the hard work of the rescue workers," said Rep. Eastlund. "If not for their preparedness and heroism, things could have been much worse. There are many tales of bravery that have emerged from this tragedy."
House and Senate leaders have announced plans to form a joint bipartisan committee to investigate the disaster. Additionally, Minnesota leaders have already begun working with federal officials to secure the financial resources necessary for the site clean up and rebuilding of the bridge.
"We pledge to get Minnesotans answers on why this bridge collapsed and to ensure that no such tragedy happens again in Minnesota." said Rep. Kalin. "We've been in touch with the city, state, and federal officials who are working together to meet our urgent needs right away.
"I've seen firsthand the amazing work our first responders are doing, they deserve the thanks of every Minnesotan."
