2nd Jam at the Dam Sept. 8
Posted: 8/8/07
The Friends of the Sunrise River citizens' group is celebrating its second year by celebrating the Sunrise River.
Come to the second annual "Jam at the Dam" River Festival starting at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Kost Dam Park. Corn on the cob, brats/hot dogs, lemonade provided. Bring yourself, your family/friends, a dish to share, your acoustic instrument(s), and your singing voice. Monetary donations are appreciated.
3 p.m. - dark: "Jam at the Dam" -- an ongoing acoustic music jam.
3 p.m. -- dark: Nitrate clinic -- bring your tap water (in a baggie); the first 50 samples will get tested, results back the next week--free.
3-5 p.m. Fishing contest (in the Dam area) -- all ages, fun categories, fun little prizes
4 p.m. - Canoe events (BYOC)
4:30 p.m. - Mussel Watch program -- come learn about the amazing mussels of the Sunrise River; mussel experts will be here for hands-on information. This is also an introduction for an annual citizens' mussel monitoring program.
5 p.m. Food is served! Bring, bring a dish to compliment the corn and brats/dogs.
6:30 p.m. More music, mussel ID, fishing on your own
7:30 p.m. - darker: Displaying female mussels search… prepare for wet feet. This is a truly unique natural phenomenon happening right in our river -- you won't be disappointed when you see what those ‘shy' mussels can do.
