Rosalene Schield

Rosalene Alice Schield, age 81, of North Branch, died on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the Inver Grove Heights Good Samaritan Home. She was born to Jacob and Bessie (Eggleston) Feenstra on April 9, 1926 in Turner County, South Dakota. Rosie lived in the Parker area until her senior year in high school. At that time she and her family moved to Paramount, Cal., where Rosie finished high school and received her diploma. In 1945 Rosie was working at U.S. Rubber in the greater Los Angeles area when she met Alex Schield her husband of 50 years. Alex and Rose left California in 1951 and moved to North Dakota for the winter and then onto Danforth, Minn., where they lived and farmed for 10 years. In 1961 Rosie and Alex moved to North Branch where they lived for 40 plus years. Rosie began working for the North Branch School District as a cook. She retired from the North Branch School District 25 years later. She worked in the elementary school, middle school and the high school. Rosie loved kids and mentored and befriended countless numbers of children and teens during those 25 years. She volunteered in elementary classrooms helping children to read. She volunteered at Green Acres shampooing and setting the residents' hair. She also worked at the Minnesota State Fair as a cook for the Youth Camp.

Rosie's hobbies were sewing, crocheting, knitting, reading, baking, raising birds and playing bingo. Rosie was well known for her baking as she would bake large batches of cookies and cinnamon rolls and share them with her friends, family and business buddies.

She is survived by her children, Alex (Sharon) of Hastings; Janice Ledin of North Branch and Quede (Joe) Fritz of Fredericksburg, Tex.; grandchildren, Leah and Andy Hilmanowski; Cory and Shelleise Schield, Jennifer Sellwood, Joshua Ledin, Richard and Kaylee, Drew and Tori Hilmanowski; Jacob Schield, Jocelyn and Zander Sellwood, Hannah Rose Mitchell, Maddie and Jake Fritz. Sisters, Luella Alberts of Milwaukee, Wis., and Mary (Richard) Duffy of Oroville, Cal.; many nieces, nephews, friends, caregivers, and all of whom loved and cherished Rosie for her caring and spontaneous response to life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex. in 1996 and a sister, Margaret O'Neill.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 6 at the United Methodist Church in North Branch with Rev. Chris Kneen officiating. Organist was Nancy Rampp and soloist was Annie Selander. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery in North Branch.

Arrangements were under the direction Grandstrand Funeral Home in North Branch.
