Harbor Room offering yoga series in January

Posted: 12/12/07

Back by popular demand the Harbor Room, cancer resource center, will be offering a free six week series of gentle yoga instruction titled "Breathe, Stretch, Relax."

The class will start on Tues., Jan. 8 and will be Tuesdays through Feb. 19 (we will miss one class on Jan. 22).

The class will start at 9 a.m. and end at 10 a.m. and will be held at the Cambridge Medical Center. The class is being offered through the generosity of the instructor's time.

The instructor is Amy Jensen, she's been teaching yoga in the area since January 2002.

This one hour class will be accessible to all levels of students. The class will begin with a 10-15 minute centering practice which will allow the student to slow down and prepare for the rest of the class. The middle of the class will consist of stretching and gently strengthening the body with an emphasis on using the breath as a guide. The last 15 minutes of class will be a restorative practice that will allow the body and mind to become quiet and to focus on healing.

Exercise mats, straps, eye pillows and blocks will be provided by the instructor. Participants can also bring their own yoga mat and supplies if they prefer.

Anyone affected by cancer, in any way, will be invited to attend. That means it does not only have to be the cancer patient who can attend, it can also be the family member or friend supporting someone with cancer.

Class size is limited so call early to sign up. For more class details and to sign up, contact Bonnie at (763) 689-8415.
