Season off to promising start for boys basketball

On Dec. 11, the Rush City boys basketball team fell to No. 5 ranked Maranatha Christian Academy by one point, 46-45.
Andy Erickson led the team with 14 points and eight rebounds and picked up three steals in the loss.
Senior captain Isaac Roll had 10 points and eight rebounds in the game.
Head coach Jeremy Albright acknowledged Maranatha had a good team and said they have a player "who will be playing division I ball next year."
In regards to effort, Albright was pleased.
"I was happy with our effort and determination in our first game of the year," Albright said.
"Anytime you can go on the road and play a ranked team and compete like we did, it will help you down the road."
At the halfway point, the boys were down by five points. Midway through the second half, Maranatha's lead was doubled. With a 10-point defect staring them in the face, the boys battled back to come within a point of knocking off the state-ranked team.
Jared Orn had five steals on the night.
"I thought our defense played tough," Albright said.

East Central
Erickson's rejection of an East Central player late in the first half got the crowd off its feet. The rejection fired up Erickson and the team as they cruised in the second half to a 66-44 win over the Eagles.
Roll was the team's high scorer and finished with 23 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
Coming up off the bench to give the boys a boost was senior Luke Moulton and juniors Cody Waters and Derek Gorman.
"Luke, Cody, and Derek really played well off the bench," Albright said. "The kids were fired up and the crowd was as well."
