Evelyn V. Robinson
Evelyn Victoria (Larsen) Robinson was born in Brandon, Minn. May 23, 1907 to Anna and Louis P. Larsen. She was the third child and only daughter. She was baptized and confirmed at the Norwegian Lutheran Church in Brandon (now Grace Lutheran Church). In order to complete her high school education, she boarded in Alexandria during the week and graduated from Alexandria High School in 1925. She moved with her mother and brother to Minneapolis where she attended the University of Minnesota for three years. A chance conversation led her to pursue a degree in teaching kindergarten and she transferred to Miss Wood's Kindergarten and Primary Training School in Minneapolis, a private school, where she graduated in 1930. Evelyn taught first grade in Rush City, Minn. until she married Adrian Robinson in Minneapolis at University Lutheran Church of Hope on August 3, 1935.
She and Adrian were married nearly 65 years and adopted two daughters, Karen and Beverly. Evelyn maintained her teaching skills by being involved in the Christian Education programs at First Lutheran Church in Rush City where she and Adrian were long-time members. She also was heavily involved at Rush City Public Schools on behalf of her "girls."
In 1986 she and Adrian greeted their beautiful granddaughter, Vanessa, who was the light of their lives.
Evelyn loved being a wife and mother. She was known for being a gracious hostess and welcoming presence in the community. Three years after Adrian died, she moved to Grandview Christian Home in Cambridge, Minn. where she lived until her death.
In May 2007 she celebrated her 100th birthday at a party given in her honor at First Lutheran Church in Rush City. She reveled in the day meeting longtime friends and relatives as well as enjoying being "back home."
She died quietly November 27, 2007, after suffering a severe fall. She is preceded in death by her husband, Adrian; her parents and two brothers, Arthur and Theodore, brothers and sisters-in-law. Karen and Beverly, and Vanessa, survive her along with nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held for Evelyn Saturday, Dec. 8, at 1:00 p.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rush City, Minn. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are entrusted to the Funeral and Cremation Service-Olson Chapel of Rush City, Minn.
