RC school board appoints newest member

By MaryHelen Swanson
Brian Anderson will fill the seat currently held by Mark Moulton on the Rush City School Board.

Moulton, who was re-elected on a write-in vote in November, did not choose to run for another term.

When Moulton made it known that he would not accept the position through the write-in, the school board agreed to fill his position by appointing an interested individual and called for district residents to submit letters explaining why they wanted to serve.

Five people expressed interest: Brenda Nessel, Brian Anderson, Heidi Schafer, Tom Fessenden and Sharon Carlson.
Carlson had withdraw her name a few days before the school board was to choose a candidate.

At the special meeting last Tuesday, Superintendent Vern Koepp thanked all of the candidates for showing interest and being willing to serve on the board.

A motion was then made by board member Gwen Goretsas to nominate Anderson, and when chairman Scott Tryon did not receive any further nominations, Moulton seconded the motion for Anderson. The board voted unanimously to appoint Anderson.

There were four good people, Supt. Koepp said, in a conversation with the Post Review Friday, no one, it seemed, came with any specific agenda. All had written nice letters of interest, he said, which the board used in making their decision.

Goretsas noted at the time of nomination, that Anderson had received the next highest number of write-in votes in the November election.

She said she felt he could be an asset to the school board.
Anderson will take over in January and serve two years until the next board election in 2009.
Moulton will remain on the board through the end of the year.

Anderson will be able to take advantage of new school board member training in January. Koepp said Anderson is ready to step up and work with the other board members.
