Thomas Johnson
Tom passed away peacefully on February 8, 2007 at the Cambridge Health Center, Cambridge, MN at the age of 100 years and 3 months.
Tom, the son of Charles and Minnie (Swenson) Johnson was born October 31, 1906 in Harris, MN. He was born and raised on the home farm, one of 7 children.
He and Marian Eleanore Erickson were married 74 years. They were both members of the Rush City Lutheran church until they relocated to the Twin cities and joined the House of Prayer Lutheran Church, then relocated to Cambridge where they are members of Cambridge Lutheran. He was also a member of the Jasper Masonic Lodge #164 in Rush City for 60 years.
Tom loved his music, was in a Barbershop quartet, sang in the church choir at Rush City and was part of a dance band on the week-ends. He was very talented when it came to his music.
When Tom and Marian lived in Duluth they owned a grocery store before moving to Rush City where he was bulk agent for the Standard Oil Company. He drove school bus for Rush City Schools and was on the school board. He then went on to driving gasoline trucks for large oil companies. After retirement from driving, he drove school bus in Richfield.
Tom loved to fish and he and Marian had a trailer on Mille Lacs Lake. They spent summers on Mille Lacs and made many good friends there. Tom would pack up the car, drive downtown and pick up Marian from work and head north every week-end. He always brought home walleyes for his family.
His most favorite time of the year was the winter season when they would head to Arizona. They were so happy down there, and family got to visit in the warm climate.
He is survived by his wife, Marian of Cambridge Health Care Center in Cambridge, three daughters, Janis (Donald E.) Olson of Coon Rapids, Mary Asher of Anoka and Gloria Karels of Richfield, eleven grandchildren , twenty great grandchildren, one great, great grandson, one niece and three nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Minnie Johnson; sisters; Clara Carlson, Alice Mitchell and Mary Johnson who passed away at the age of 21; brothers; Samuel Chester (Chet). Albert and Russell, who died very young.
A memorial service will be celebrated Friday 2 p.m. with visitation one hour prior at the Cambridge Lutheran Church with Rev. David Everett officiating. A spring inurnment will occur in the First Lutheran Cemetery in Rush City. Arrangements are entrusted to the Funeral and Cremation Service of Rush City, Olson Chapel.
