You are needed on comp plan task force
By MaryHelen Swanson
"Wanted!"
The mayor said put up the signs.
It's not a re-enactment of an old West tale, but the North Branch City Council looking for citizen input in the revision of the city's Comprehensive Plan.
This plan, which serves as a guide for growth and development, should be what the people want, said the mayor.
Mayor Gloria Karsky hopes the people get "fired up" and involved. She said it would be better to serve on the task force now and plan for the city's future the way people want it, than to complain two years down the road that you don't like something about North Branch.
Councilwoman Amy Oehlers hopes a variety of ages will want to be on the task force that is being created. In fact, she hopes even high school students would be interested in having a say in the future of North Branch.
It was at the Jan. 8 council meeting that the councilors authorized establishing a task force to review and update the comp plan.
They would like to have 10-15 people on this committee and have advertised for applicants. So far, no-one.
But the council is willing to wait a little longer - the deadline is Feb. 16 - but may be extended.
It will entail a bit of work as the task force plans to meet twice a month for about a year and a half. The hope is that the comp plan revision will be done in 24 months.
If anyone is interested in serving on this task force, call city hall at (651) 674-8113 and give them your name.
The council plans to hold a meeting with applicants one hour prior to the second March council meeting to visit with interested applicants.
