Area Relay for Life kick-off rally set for Feb. 27

Posted: 2/21/07

The American Cancer Society invites individuals who want to honor cancer survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer) and caregivers, or pay tribute to those who have lost their battle with cancer to join its Relay For Life Kickoff Rally.

The Rally will be held Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. at the Lent Town Hall located at 33155 Hemingway Ave in Stacy.

The Kickoff is an opportunity for families, caregivers, cancer survivors, schools, companies, etc., to come together to start the Relay For Life season.

It will be an evening of honoring local cancer survivors, with inspirational speakers, prize drawings and more. A spaghetti dinner will be served at 5 p.m. This is a free event open to the public.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is an overnight community celebration where individuals and teams camp out, barbecue, dance, and take turns walking around a track relay style to raise funds to fight cancer. At nightfall, participants will light hundreds of luminaries around the track in a moving ceremony to honor cancer survivors, as well as friends and family members lost to the disease.

In the past 20 years, funds raised from Relay For Life have helped the American Cancer Society save lives through expanding research, provided greater access to cancer information, passed legislation to protect public health and provided access to health care, and offered programs and services to cancer patients and their families.

The Relay For Life of Chisago County will be held on Friday, July 27, at the threshing show grounds in Almelund. For more information on how you can be involved, contact Nicole Battles with the American Cancer Society at (651) 255-8113 or Nicole.Battles@cancer.org.
