Boys fight hard in losing battles

The North Branch hockey team hoisted its white flag often during the last three games of the season.

On Feb. 6, the boys fell to Robbinsdale Cooper 8-0. The Hawks scored four goals in the first period, taking the wind out of the Vikings sails early. The Vikings let in one goal in the second and three more in the third in the loss. North Branch was outshot 37-21.

Against St. Francis, the Vikings fell by a score of 6-1 on Feb. 9. Junior center Jake Williams scored the Vikings only goal in the third period off a pass from J.T. Lindholm.

To close out the regular season, North Branch fell to Northern Lakes Lighting 11-3.

In the second period, the Vikings notched three power plays goals but were unable to come out on top.

Scoring first for the Vikings was sophomore forward Dalton Miska. Jake Williams scored the next goal which was followed by a final goal from Tyler Sowka.

However, the third period wasn't easy for the Vikes.

"The third period presented the Vikings with a handful of power play opportunities, only to see the lightning capitalize on them," assistant coach Darrell Schulte said.

The Lighting scored seven times in the third to set up the win.
