Unusual Friday night traffic

Folks traveling on Hwy. 95 west of North Branch late last Friday afternoon saw an unusual sight. A flashing light on the end of a tall pole announced the passing of a Montana logger who is making a "pilgrimage" across the United States.

Diagnosed with Lymphoma, Lee Crafton, 46, left Marais Pass, Mont. Aug. 9, 2006 embarking on the cross-country journey of a lifetime. He travels in this homemade horse-drawn wagon, powered by his team of Suffolk Punch draft horses, Max and Tom, and he has two Great Pyrenees dogs, Katie and Kerr-Mutt, as traveling companions.

One of his goals is to visit a childhood sweetheart in New York, the other is simply to learn lessons of life by living it to the fullest.

Crafton was headed for Hugo Sunday, he travels at will, about 100 miles a week, and doesn't use a map. He left for his journey with $75 in his pocket and has been provided food, shelter, hay for the horses and even the chance to shower by the people he meets along the way.

You can follow his adventure on his Web site, and if he should pass by your neighborhood, he'd appreciate an offer of a snack, a water break, or a place to stop overnight.
