Kenneth E. Vaughn

Kenneth passed away peacefully on February 5, 2007 at the Lakeside Nursing Home in Pine City, Minn. at the age of 92 years, 11 months and 24 days.

Kenneth, the son of Alex and Sedona (Struck) Vaughn was born  February 12, 1914, in Rush City, Minn.

On February 11, 1939 Kenny was united in marriage to Evelyn Little at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rush City, Minn. Kenny was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church and became a member on June 5,1945.

During the depression, Kenny shoveled coal for the trains and had a minnow business. This very active man had a variety of jobs, such as working at Amber Mill in Rush City, driving Rush City school bus and being a Rush City School custodian from 1962 until he retired on February 12,1979.

With all of his jobs he still had time to own a gravel pit and hauled gravel until the age of 85 years old. He always preferred the small 4 1/2 yard Ford dump truck because of the good gas mileage. For 20 years Kenny dug graves in the Rush City area and Kenny and Evelyn also owned and operated the Koffee Kup Restaurant in Rush City which was a popular gathering place for everyone.

For several years in the early 1980s, Kenny was the mayor of the city of Rush City, beating out Jim Ertz (current Rush City mayor) by only 5 votes. A charter member of the Rush City Lions; Kenny was a Lion from 1971 until 2003, when he went to live at Lakeside Nursing Home.

Kenny enjoyed fishing wherever he could; the fishing in Canada was always a highlight. He also enjoyed coffee shops, he and Evelyn liked going to the Grant House Hotel and after that closed they enjoyed going to the Truck Stop in Rock Creek visiting with a lot of nice people.

He is survived by son, Donald Vaughn (Sandra Aagaard) and step-son Richard Wilcox (Julie) all of Rush City. grandchildren: Sean Vaughn (Becky) of Rush City and Shannon Rambow (Bill), of Minnetonka; great-grandchildren Robyn and Reed Rambow of Minnetonka; sisters-in Law: Betty Vaughn of Mpls., Sylvia Vaughn of North Branch, brother and sister-in-law Lois and Wallace Kortmann of Woodbury, Minn. and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Kenny was preceded in death by wife Evelyn on May 6, 2003, daughter Marlyce Christensen on January 15, 1985, daughter in-law Kathleen Vaughn, son in-law Roger Christensen; brothers Stewart, Morris and Darryl.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Rush City Building Fund.

Rev. Laurie O'Shea will officiate at funeral services Thursday 11 a.m, at the First Lutheran Church in Rush City. Music will be provided by organist Dianne Kirchberg and soloist Jan Goebel.

Honorary casket bearers include, Bob Booth, Clarence McDonald, Wes Gaustad, Bill Sandberg, Mel Shoberg and Marlyn Moses.

The active casket bearers will be Rush City Lions members Ken Gruhlke, Loring Nelson, Marlin Holmberg, Bob Erickson, Jeff Erickson, and Anders Johnson with the interment in the First Lutheran Cemetery of Rush City.

Visitation is scheduled for (TODAY) Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Olson Chapel in Rush City.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Funeral and Cremation Service of Rush City, Minn., Olson Chapel.
