Pheasants Forever banquet set for March 3
Posted: 2/7/07
The 22nd Annual Chisago County Pheasants Forever banquet will be held at Lent Town Hall near Stacy on Saturday, March 3.
The popular, family-oriented event, begins with a social hour at 5 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. It has been a sellout or nearly so many years, so order your tickets early, advises Tim Kane, chapter president.
Past attendees have been mailed a banquet registration form, and tickets also are available from chapter members, the North Branch Dairy Queen, Chisago Hardware or by calling Time Kane at (651) 674-6209.
Guest speaker will be Rick Young, vice president of field operations for the national Pheasants Forever organization headquartered in St. Paul.
He'll provide a rundown on the PF habitat work done in Minnesota in 2006 and an update on the status of the critically important national Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), which is coming up for renewal. That program has created more wildlife habitat for many kinds of animals and birds, especially pheasants, than any program since the federal Soil Bank program decades ago.
The CRP has also greatly reduced soil erosion and improved water quality across the country, according to agricultural scientists.
